Cox Enterprises’ Core
This living sculpture is my interpretation of Cox Enterprises’ core and their commitment to sustainability and the remarkable achievement of becoming a Zero Waste to landfill Business. The sculpture centers the company’s values of Mobility, Connectivity, and Sustainability. Conceptually, this piece serves as both a trophy and a celebration of Cox’s leadership in fostering a sustainable future.
The Process
The Steel Armature
The sculpture’s diamond shape is a tribute to Cox Enterprises’ commitment to excellence. The steel structure is made of found metal pieces around Atlanta and forms a dynamic foundation that symbolizes the robust operational infrastructure that enabled the zero waste goal achievement.
Mobility
The lower side panels, crafted mostly from reclaimed auto parts sourced from CAI Manheim Atlanta, are designed to evoke a sense of movement and flow.
Connectivity
The central globe is more than just a visual focal point; it features a custom capacitive touch sensor. When you touch any part of the sculpture’s metal structure, the Cox logo illuminates, representing the enterprises’ evolving efforts to innovate connectivity for all. The top side panels narrate a story of transformation: where wires trace their journey from raw copper to powering Cox Communications electronics and cables, sourced from CCI.
Sustainability
At the heart of it all, three self-sustaining terrarium globes symbolize Cox’s love of nature and building a greater future for the next generation. The upper globe represents fluidity and features compost derived from the Atlanta Headquarters and a delicate butterfly crafted from reclaimed license plates. The lower globe features a hydroponic greenhouse, highlighting the enterprises’ developments in sustainable agriculture.
The Resin
Seen throughout the sculpture is eco-resin, a bio-based thermosetting plastic derived from renewable resources like plant oils, starches, and natural fibers. This environmentally friendly material, with its lower VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions, aligns with Cox’s and the artist’s shared values.
